The name Panji Tisna is often written as Pandji Tisna. Around the 1950s, Anak Agung Panji Tisna, had traveled to several countries in Europe and Asia. What caught his eye especially was the life of the people in India. He stayed several weeks in Bombay, India. The way of life and the condition of the people there, immediately influenced his way of thinking and insight into Bali, especially the development of community welfare in Buleleng Regency.
Meanwhile, Panji Tisna also saw a place that was beautifully appointed for people on vacation on the beach. The land has similarities to his land at Tukad Cebol Beach (the name before it became Lovina Beach).
Panji Tisna's inspiration emerged to build an inn like that and in 1953 he built an inn to be precise on the Tukad Midget beach, while the name of the inn was Lovina Inn. Many doubted Panji Tisna's efforts considering that at that time Tukad Cebol was just a remote beach.
In 1959, Panji Tisna transferred the Lovina Inn to Anak Agung Ngurah Sentanu, his cousin. The effort continued, unfortunately at the end of 1960 the capital of Bali switched from Singaraja to Denpasar. The economy in Singaraja Buleleng also collapsed.
Along with the development of Bali tourism in 1980, tourist areas were formed such as in Kuta and Sanur. In Buleleng there are Kalibukbuk and Air Sanih. Local cultural observers stated, "Lovina" is a foreign word, not Balinese. Furthermore, there is no "v" in Balinese script. Another comment said emphatically, don't use the word "Lovina", it should be deleted. In accordance with the direction of the Governor of Bali, the name Lovina was changed to "Permata Cottages".
Although the name "Lovina" has not been raised, the name "Lovina" has been widely recognized by the tourism world as a destination in North Bali. Requests from business people and travel agents also demand that "Lovina" be brought back. Efforts to elevate North Bali as a tourist destination include returning to the popularization of "Lovina". Therefore, the name Pondok Wisata "Lovina", which has been renamed "Permata Cottages", is now back using the original name "Lovina" which until now is called "Lovina Beach Hotel". Since then the name "Lovina" has been used by no less than 6 coastal villages of the original. The row of beaches is located in 2 (two) adjacent sub-districts
